Track Name: Modern Society Blues
No more will I succumb to the blues or the restless depression
No more will I make myself choose between my soul and my possessions
All I need is this old pair of shoes, a flannel, and a guitar
And I'll head on down the road with a bottle of booze, some smokes, and an open heart

Well I thought I was doin good I found a house of my own
and everything was goin fine until I took out a loan
A few months later I was swimmin in debt
and the bank said "to bad boy the interest rates been set"
I said "what are you gonna do if I cannot pay?" and they said
we'll think of somethin and slammed the door in my face

Well the bank they took my home and they kicked me to the curb
I was in need of some cash so I hit up the federal reserve
They asked me how much money did i want them to print
I said "about 800 billion, ya that should cover it"
They said "ok what do you need this money for?"
I said "I gotta bail out some friends, and finance some wars"

On my way down the road I stopped to get some rest, when I realized
that I'd stumbled upon the military industrial complex
and I asked the man why they was building so many guns
He answered with a grin and said "the war it must be won"
I said "How come we aint ever give peace a chance?"
He said "cuz killins become a business boy and business is good"

Well I started feelin weary and I began to move along
Til I was just a stones throw, from the white house lawn
and I asked the president what it meant to be a patriot
He said "just love your country son, and be willing to kill for it"
I said "but aint we all just children of the earth?"
He said 'nah boy youve been US government property since birth"

Well I started feelin blue, and stuck in a rut
when i ran into a preacher who told me i was in luck
He told me he could teach me the error of my ways
and for just a small cash donation i could still be saved
I said "shouldnt the lords message be free of charge?"
He said "well then come back on Christmas day, it'll be half price"

And then I turned on the tube, and the commercial man was askin
If i ever felt depressed, anxious or unhappy
and that if I felt, any one of those things
to go see the doctor and get their medicine
He said "its a life long prescription, just one pill a day, and oh ya
dont forget, the bill will be in the mail"

And I started gettin hungry, so i went to get some food
And i asked the man behind the counter what was on the menu
He said "todays special is chicken sticks, with a little bit
of growth hormone and some anti-biotics."
Some genetically modified pesticide and somethin called corn syrup
I said "no thank you sir, Im goin to the farmers market"

And I started feelin brave, and I felt like protestin
So I went and sparked a blunt out in front of the police station
The police man came out, he had a cigarette in his mouth,
alcohol on his breath, and a gun in his belt
He said "son dont you know marijuana is against the law?"
I said "yes sir, but it wont be for long"
